Go paperless: Electronic medical records by the numbers

Infographic: Want to know how much time, energy and resources are wasted in healthcare paperwork?  Tons, according to GE. The company has created a neat video infographic highlighting the tremendous amount of waste — not to mention the negative impact to patient care — surrounding dead-tree record keeping and billing in the healthcare industry (embedded after the break). What’s the solution? Electronic medical records of course!

Here’s one of the most maddening stats from the video:

70 percent – The amount of activities — i.e. medical records management —  in the average primary care provider that are non-billable

Mind you, GE Healthcare has a business to run, so keep that in mind. Nonetheless, the concept is fundamentally sound.

Also, I didn’t plan this to become Go Paperless Friday, nor did I intend to get all my inspiration from today’s posts from Twitter, but there you have it. Consider today a mini-Follow Friday Tweetfest of Green Tech Awesomeness.

Thanks @GE_Reports
