SSD bargains spell good news for Green IT

For all of their energy saving and performance-boosting benefits, solid-state drives’ (SSD) lofty per-gigabyte cost make the storage technology it a tough sell when compared to trusty old platter-based hard drives. Put simply, few are going to pay a premium for data storage, especially  (sorry to sound cliché) in this economy. Recently, though, there’s been reason to get excited about outfitting your systems with SSDs.

As SSD makers transition to manufacturing processes with ever-shrinking die sizes, the drives become cheaper to manufacture. Plus, they have to clear out inventory, so prices are beginning to fall in earnest. Take, for instance, this beauty spotlighted by TechETA’s Rafael Hernandez (yes, relation!).

Crucial RealSSD C300 Series 128GB Solid State Drive:
Rated: up to 355MB/s read speeds
$2.33/GigaByte
The is one of the fastest SSDs available flat out demolishing the competition. You won’t find anything that can match its speed until you start reaching for a RAID array of SSDs or a high-end PCI Express based storage card which will cost a magnitude more than a consumer drive.

Check out the other SSD bargains here.
