Green startups, time to bone up on net neutrality

To be honest, I have yet to fully wrap my head around the Google and Verizon net neutrality business (I generally leave that to smarter folks). But it looks like I may have to change my attitude.

In this intriguing article that sailed across my Twitter stream today, Sustainablog’s Jeff McIntire-Strasburg explores “Why Net Neutrality Matters to Your Green Business” over at GreenMarketing.TV. There are five basic reasons, but this one should resonate with early-stage firms that simply don’t have the resources to compete with established companies.

Net neutrality keeps the playing field level: The internet provides a medium through which any entrepreneur, with a relatively small amount of capital, can reach potential customers and clients. You don’t need a huge ad budget, or a top-tier PR firm, to get your messaege out… and the success or failure of that message depends largely on your ability to read the market and craft an offering that meets demand. This especially matters to green businesses as our niche is generally dominated by very large, and very small, players…

Green entrepreneurs, it looks like it’s time to bone up on the topic.
