VMware Tweaks Load Balancing In vSphere 4 – Information Week

The Distributed Resource Scheduler in vSphere 4 monitors virtual machine usage across a server cluster to see whether the virtual machine is loaded on the server that best meets its needs. DRS can perform load balancing in the cluster to ensure the best possible application performance.

MLC to SSD’s Rescue – ITBusinessEdge.com

SandForce’s Thad Omura says a key development is a new type of flash controller called the SSD processor. By concentrating processing power in the controller, the hope is that increased write amplification technology and other technologies can bring MLC performance up to the level of SLC while still keeping the overall system at a reasonable price point. It also opens the possibility of adding RAID-like features across multiple die, lowering the failure rate dramatically.

The argument put forward by ABI is that current mobile gadgets require a lot of processing power, memory, and storage in order to cope with the apps being downloaded and used. Developers also have to make a decision between supporting a single platform (iPhone, Symbian, Android, etc.) or developing for all platforms. Either way there is a downside – lost sales or longer development time.
