IBM Aquasar - Liquid Chip CoolingAquasar, IBM’s super computer for the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich will have liquid-cooled chips to efficiently remove the heat they generate.

The micro-channel cooler technology is nice, but the real kicker is that the heat will be used to keep people warm.

For overall efficiency, the entire cooling system is a closed circuit. The heated water from the chips is cooled as it passes through a passive heat exchanger and the removed heat is recycled. In this case, it is channeled into the University’s heating system.
