The biggest winner is the 15″ MacBook Pro, it gains a 46% increase in battery capacity with zero increase in size or weight. The new 15″ MacBook Pro is the same size and weight (5.5lbs) as the previous model, it just has a 46% larger battery. Did I mention it’s cheaper too?

Cooling Data Centers: Not Green, Not Needed – PC World

Servers and other equipment “can run much hotter than people allow,” Simonelli, the chief technical officer at the Schneider Electric-owned APC, said in a recent interview. “Many big data center operators are experienced with running data centers at close to 90 degrees [and with more humidity than is typically allowed]. That’s a big difference from 68.”

Can the spam – The Economist

The study looked at the consequences of closing down spammers. On November 11th 2008, an American web-hosting service called McColo, which helped distribute spam, was disconnected by its internet-service provider. Overnight there was a 70% fall in the number of spam messages. For every unsent message, there was a benefit to the planet. The consultants reckon that the reduction was the same as taking 2.2m cars off the road, albeit temporarily, until the spammers re-established themselves elsewhere.

“It’s really a green arms race, in which they’re trying to one up each other,” said John Spooner, an analyst with Technology Business Research. “The good news is they’re all working in this direction and that’s going to benefit themselves, their customers and the environment.”
